Wine Description & Tasting Notes
Planted in 1971, Astley Vineyard is a family run, single estate vineyard in Worcestershire. One of the oldest vineyards in the UK, located in the beautiful Severn valley, just 10 miles north of the cathedral city of Worcester.
Astley’s 5 acre vineyard produces an average of over 7,000 bottles per year. Their primary focus is still white wines, but also produce a number of other styles (sparkling/orange/late harvest) when the vintage is just right.
This experitmental from Astley vineyard was from the wonderfuly warm 2022 vintage. They have used Madeleine Angevine to create a low intervention orange wine by letting the wine wild ferment with the skins for 26 days and then aged on the lees for 5 months. Creating a deep, rich and velvety wine. In essence, using a white wine grape and making it like a red wine.
Dry with medium acidity and notes of Rooibos tea, turmeric, blood orange peel and cider apples.
Nose: Pronouced aromas of citrus peel, Rooibos tea and cider apples
Palate: Dry with medium acidity and flavours of plithy citrus peel, blood oranges, cider apples and a hint of ginger spice on the finish.
Food pairings:Deliciously different on its own but ultimately is a food loving wine. loves to be paired with creamy sauced pastas and risottos but also fried poultry and asian inspired dishes like Crispy duck and pancakes with hoi sin sauce.
